Call For Abstracts

Author Guidelines

ISMPP is pleased to issue a Call for Abstracts for its 16th Annual Meeting themed, The Evolving Role of the Scientific Communications Professional in an Open World, April 20-22, 2020, at the Grand Hyatt in Washington DC.

The Annual Meeting offers a great opportunity to publish your research and contribute knowledge to the medical publications and scientific communications space.

Your research could be:

  • part of our Member Research Poster and Networking Reception

  • published in the Current Medical Research & Opinion supplement

  • considered for a spot in our oral presentation session

  • eligible for one of three poster awards

  • featured during one of our poster tours

  • showcased as part of our Annual Meeting Highlights ISMPP U

Abstracts should be research-oriented and provide objective evidence that confirms, improves, or enhances standards or understanding of the medical publication and/or scientific communication professions. Topics related to the meeting theme are encouraged.

You may want to consider, but are not limited to, original research in the following areas:

  • Ethics and/or transparency

  • Best practices, education, and/or advocacy

  • Perception of the medical publication and/or scientific communication professions by the external environment, especially evidence that helps to debunk misperceptions about the field

  • Legal, regulatory, and/or publishing environments and their impact on the medical publication profession and/or scientific communication profession

  • Successful internal or external collaborations

  • Direct application to day-to-day activities

  • Standards and guidelines


 ISMPP's Abstract Committee will review all abstracts via a blinded, peer-review process.

**Please note - in keeping with other scientific congresses, ISMPP will no longer be issuing conditional acceptances for abstract submissions or accepting late submissions. ISMPP will also no longer distribute surveys on behalf of abstract authors. Please read the guidelines carefully to ensure a high-quality submission that meets the stated requirements.

Authors will be notified by late-February. Abstracts will be selected for presentation based on criteria that include the abstract’s originality and innovation, clear communication, especially in regards to methods and results, and relevance to the field of medical publications.
