MedThink SciCom

Type of Company:
Communications Agency
Professional Degrees: CMPP, PhD
CMPP Certified: (9/2010)

Bio: As VP, Managing Director, I am responsible for implementation of MedThink SciCom's core organizational focus: always thinking, flawless execution, and outstanding customer service. In addition, I am responsible for financial management and business planning; overseeing team growth and staff development; and establishing and maintaining procedure, performance, and quality standards. I have 15+ years of medical communications agency experience overseeing scientific strategy (eg, scientific platforms, disease-state education plans, publication planning). I have also been involved in identifying and expanding new service offerings (ie, developing innovative approaches to address client needs). My areas of expertise include biochemistry, immunology, infectious diseases, inflammation, and oncology. Before I joined MedThink SciCom, I worked at a medical communications company in the Midwest, where I provided scientific direction for multiple therapeutic areas in the oncology space, including immunotherapy, supportive care, and targeted agents. I earned my PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Mississippi State University and completed my postdoctoral research at Ohio University studying the mechanism of action of 2 biological response modifiers.

Michael Platt

Managing Director
Virgo Health

Type of Company:
Communications Agency
Professional Degrees: BA/BS, MS
CMPP Certified: (9/2010)

Bio: Michael has over 24 years of industry experience and a broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, medical device, and healthcare fields. His expertise spans prelaunch, launch, and postlaunch initiatives including publication planning, advisory boards, sales training, MSL training, digital engagement, and regulatory writing. In addition, Michael worked for 10+ years in continuing education where he issued credentials and certifications to physicians, nurses, and pharmacists, as well as publication professionals. Some of his therapeutic areas of focus include biologics, oncology, hematology, rare diseases, cardiology, allergy and asthma, infectious disease, gastroenterology, urology, and rheumatology. Michael manages a team of professionals who develop compelling, yet compliant, medical communications. The team at Virgo Health focuses on strategic consulting for medical affairs and scientific communication initiatives. Other offerings from Virgo Health include advisory board and steering committee meetings with medical information and clinical advisors, thought leader identification and development, market surveillance, and full-scale publication planning. Michael currently provides strategic consulting for peer-to-peer initiatives on the cardio-protective benefits of Jardiance in patients with type 2 diabetes who have had a previous cardiovascular event. Michael also worked on the Door-to-Needle initiative funded by Genentech, as well as the Genentech product Retavase. To bring attention to the finding that earlier treatment for MI improved outcomes for patients, his team developed a program that, when implemented, reduced treatment times for suspected heart attack victims, which improved patient outcomes. Another physician-based program that immediately improved patient outcomes addressed a rare disease, infantile spasms or West syndrome, and was supported by Questcor. Many pediatric neurologists were treating the symptoms of this cognitively detrimental disease, but they were not completing a second test to insure that the resulting hypsarrhythmia was resolved in the infant. Michael¿s team developed a series of educational programs that increased awareness and action on the part of these physicians. Michael came to Virgo Health from MedVal, where as President, EVP, he led a writing and editorial team focused on publication planning and publications, as well as regulatory writing and medical affairs initiatives. Previously, he was CEO of Fission Communications, a New York-based medical education and communications company he founded in 2001, where he guided the development and execution of distinctive medical communications programs. He was also Director of Business Development at Ventiv Health Communications in Stamford, Connecticut, and has held positions at Genecom, LLC, and Q.E.D. International, Inc. Michael began his career in the research sector of the pharmaceutical industry as a project technician at OSI Pharmaceuticals, a drug discovery company based in New York. Michael is the past chair of the CMPP Board, the certification body of the International Society of Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP). He is also an active member of the ISMPP U Committee. As a past chair of ISMPP U, Michael assisted in establishing needs-based sessions for ISMPP U that met educational gaps for publication professionals.
