Webinar Overview:

The 16th Annual Meeting of ISMPP, The Evolving Role of the Scientific Communications Professional in an Open World, focused on the expanded communications role many ISMPP members are or will be expected to play in an increasingly more open, collaborative and transparent research environment. Growing the body of research and publishing on concepts important to our profession remains central to improving the overall quality and reach of scientific communications.

Join us for a series of research presentations featuring the Poster Award winners from the recent Annual Meeting, including a new poster award category for the piece of research the Society would most like to be developed into a full publication. A wide range of topics will be featured – social media, preprints, plain language summaries, health care professional behavior and trends in online attention of open access and non-open access industry publications. Plenty of time will be allotted for questions.

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  • Understand trends in online attention and reach of open access and non-open access industry-sponsored medical publications

  • Understand how healthcare professionals identify, review, and share peer-reviewed publications of interest

  • Be aware of how pharmaceutical company publications and medical affairs divisions currently use social media

  • Understand how an industry company developed a company-wide process for publication plain language summaries

  • Understand the utilization of medRxiv during the first 6 months, particularly for industry-sponsored research
